Partnership makes $2.5 Million in grants

• Seed grants for projects to transform Central Valley
• 'They will jumpstart major work in the region'
The California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley board on Thursday made 15 “seed grants” totaling $2.5 million for projects that it thinks will boost the region’s economy and quality of life.
“We are pleased with the innovation and level of collaboration that these seed grants represent and we are confident they will jumpstart major work in the region and bring us closer to achieving the partnership’s objectives,” says Sunne Wright McPeak, chairwoman of the grant review committee. The Partnership received 106 concept proposals for the grants with 36 organizations invited to submit full applications.
The awards went to the following projects:
• $225,000 for advanced communications systems
(San Joaquin Valley eHealth Network Project, UC Merced, School of Natural Science);
• $225,000 for air quality education (The Maddy Institute);
• $225,000 for economic development
(Central Valley Economic Development Corp.)
• $225,000 for building angel investment and entrepreneurship
(Golden Capital Network/Pacific Community Ventures)
• $75,000 for tourism
(Central Valley Tourism Association)
• $125,000 for increasing clean energy in the region
(Kings River Conservation District)
• $125,000 for methamphetamine recovery
(Central California Social Welfare Evaluation, Research & Training Center)
• $125,000 for a “health enterprise zone project”
(Central Valley Health Policy Institute)
• $200,000 for developing a college counseling access center
(Central Valley Higher Education Consortium)
• $250,000 for the English Learner Leadership and Mentoring Academy
(Fresno County Office of Education)
• $200,000 for a farmland conservation model program
(Fresno COG and Great Valley Center)
• $125,000 to integrate land and water solutions in Tulare Lake Basin
(Tulare Basin Wildlife Partners)
• $125,000 for the Metro Rural Loop Corridor Preservation Feasibility Study
(City of Fresno Planning & Development Department)
• $150,000 for regional water plans integration and recycled water us.
(CSUF Foundation)
• $100,000 for community health
(Self-Help Enterprises)
