The motto of high-tech equipment designer and manufacturer Dantel Inc. is “we’re always looking for trouble.” But the company has found no trouble growing in the Central Valley. Al Hutcheson, CEO of Dantel, says one of the best decisions he’s made was relocating from the Bay Area to Fresno.

(Mr. Hutcheson talks about his company, its newest product line and living and working in the Central Valley in a CVBT interview. Click on the link below to listen.) Dantel designs and makes telecommunications and surveillance equipment and software. It specializes in equipment to be located in remote locations. Customers include AT&T, Verizon, Qwest Communications and Sprint. In recent years it has placed a growing emphasis on designing and manufacturing alarm monitoring products.

Its newest product, dubbed Disaster Resistant Event Network, or DREN, is in use on two sites at the Westlands Water District, the largest agricultural water district in the United States that encompasses more than 600,000 acres of farmland in western Fresno and Kings counties.

“One system is currently providing a visual verification of the upstream/downstream water level at a remote canal site and the other is providing visual verification of the water level in a remote water tank,” Mr. Hutcheson says.
