Opus West Corp. broke ground Thursday in Stockton for what it is calling the largest new industrial development in Northern California. The campus will be built on a 475-acre tract next to Highway 99 and near Stockton Metropolitan Airport. It’s envisioned as a “global logistics supply center and distribution hub for importing and exporting a variety of products,” the company says.
“Many of our customers are looking for very large facilities – one million square feet or more – to receive all of the in-bound products that are now part of the global supply chain,” says Don Little, senior vice president of Opus West. “Opus has been in the market place in Northern California for 15 years but while we have tried to find a foothold here in the Central Valley, it has not been as easy as we thought,” Mr. Little says. “This is a rare, very unique opportunity for us to come in to have a commitment to scale for a project that could last 10 years or longer.” He says the industrial park could provide as many as 2,000 to 3,000 jobs once it is fully operational.
The site is adjacent to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) rail inter-modal terminal in Stockton and within a few miles of the Port of Stockton. The land was purchased from Marvin Oates and Bruce Fite. The complex will be built out over the next five to seven years. Opus West Architects & Engineers and Ware Malcom are the architects for the industrial park. Opus West Construction Corp. will serve as the contractor. Kier & Wright is the civil engineer for the development. Blake Rasmussen, senior vice president with CB Richard Ellis, will serve as the listing agent for the Center.
Opus West is one of five regional companies within the Opus Group, a privately held full-service real estate development company based in Minneapolis.
