The fictional movie character Robocop has been central to three movies. Robodoc, a real high-tech machine used for certain types of surgeries, is central to efforts announced Monday to get into the U.S. surgical market by Novatrix Biomedical Inc. of San Clemente.
Novatrix, which last year bought the assets of Integrated Surgical Systems Inc., says today that it has formed a new company, Curexo Medical Inc., based in Sacramento, to move forward with efforts to get Food and Drug Administration approval for Robodoc.
Curexo is being run by the former officers and employees of ISS “in order to facilitate rapid introduction of its surgical robotics system into the U.S. orthopedic market,” the company says.
Robodoc is used in Europe and Asia, including Japan, Korea and India, according to Novatrix. The system has been approved by Korea's regulatory agency, KFDA, the company says.
"Along with our partner, Curexo Inc., Korea, we are committed to fund CMI to secure U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance, enter the U.S. market and continue building the ongoing business in other major markets of the world," says Soon Kap Hahn, president and CEO of Novatrix Biomedical.
"We have already received funding from Novatrix and have been assured of future funding to accomplish our goals," says Ramesh Trivedi, president and CEO of Curexo Medical.
The company says it has submitted a 510(k) pre-market notification to the U.S. FDA for the clearance of its “Robodoc Surgical Assistance System” for marketing in the U.S.
